Bridgedale Hike Ultra Light T2 sock Review (Merino Performance – Crew cut )
Socks are socks right?
If you spend any amount of time in the mountains, you will know that this just isn’t the case. Socks can make or break a day in the mountains, or indeed any activity that involves the use of those things on the end of your legs. Believe it or not socks have come a long way since those big thick woollen socks, traditionally worn hiked up above the knee with heavy leather boots.
Bridgedale have been excelling in this area for some time now, since the early 80’s to be precise. Whilst they only had 12 products at the time, they now have a vast range to suite all activities and user preferences, over 500 products in fact.
The Hike Ultra Light T2 is a lightweight mid sock, perfect for wearing with mid-boots or shoes. This model is designed for hot weather, with clever channelling and open mesh to help the transportation of moisture away from the foot.
What Bridgedale say:
An ultra-light, T2 cushioned sock designed for long-distance hot weather adventures when you need your feet to stay cool, comfortable and dry when temperatures soar. Suitable for hikes similar to the Coast to Coast, Camino de Santiago, or the Appalachian Trail (AT)
Having used the Bridgedale Hike Ultra Light T2 socks on several outings, predominantly bagging the hills of Shropshire and whilst wearing cross shoes, I can safely say Bridgedale have done a sterling job. The padding around the toe box and ball of the foot offer great protection and comfort, padding around the ankle preventing abrasion and friction and The Performance FIT prevents bunching at the tops.
Truth be told I have always been a “two socks man”, having spent most of my early days in outdoor retail and cutting my teeth on footwear, we always used to say two socks are best, no matter what thickness, be it two thin pairs for shoes, or one thin one thick for boots, stressing that “wearing two pairs promote friction between the socks, instead of friction on your foot” . . . whilst not bad advice, Bridgedale’s range of socks are engineered to offer additional padding in high stress areas, decreasing the chance for sores and blisters, and potentially ruining your day.
These Bridgedale Hike Ultra Light T2 socks are extra comfy and are made up of Marino wool, nylon and LYCRA®, helping the feet regulate temperature and keeping those bad smells at bay. One thing the brand is known for is quality, if you’ve ever owned a pair you will know how long they last and I’ve no doubt their latest offering will do the same . . . they’re even set by their Thermo FIT process, which essentially means they return to their original shape after washing, pretty clever right?

siBased out of Shrewsbury Shropshire, I spend most of my free time across the border into Wales, primarily in Snowdonia. A keen walker and explorer who has completed the Top 100 mountains in Wales and Shropshire's 50 hills. Taking on such challenges enables me to travel to remote, quiet areas and away from the crowds, those are my favourite mountain days.
