Roseberry Topping from Newton under Roseberry

This is a short walking route up the popular hill of Roseberry Topping from Newton under Roseberry, returning via Newton Wood. This hill is an unmistakable landmark in the North York Moors and while it may ‘only’ be 320m high, provides unrivalled views of the area.

The name Roseberry Topping is derived from Othensberg, or Odin’s Hill. The Vikings believed it was sacred and so dedicated it to Odin. Over time, this has changed to Roseberry, with Topping being a local variation on ‘Top’.
