How To – Wash Merino Wool
If like me, you’re a little nervous with merino wool, here’s a brief run down of how to make sure it gets washed properly.
1 – Read the label! If it say’s anything different to us, then take the label’s advice over ours!
2 – Fill the sink with hand warm water. Don’t put water in that’s too hot or you’ll shrink it!
3 – Use a product designed for merino wool – something like nikwax Wool Wash maybe more expensive than your usual store bought detergent, but then so was the merino wool garment. Failing that, you could use soap flakes.
4 – Agitate it real good.
5 – Rinse the item well a few times, again making sure the water is again only hand warm.
6 – Wring it gently and hang it on the line to dry, away from strong sun. Don’t tumble dry or otherwise dry too quickly such as on a radiator or in front of a roaring fire.
Or…
1 – Bung in washing machine at 40°C on a gentle cycle.
2 – Hang it on the line to dry, away from strong sun. Don’t tumble dry or otherwise dry too quickly such as on a radiator or in front of a roaring fire.
Whichever method, don’t iron. Not that it’ll damage the item, we just think ironing is a crime against humanity.
