Scafell via Lord’s Rake and the West Wall traverse
The route starts in Wasdale, heading up the busy Lingmell Gill path to Hollow Stones. Here we left to climb a scree fan to the base of Lord’s Rake. Continuing up the rake we reached the fallen boulder before leaving to join the West Wall Traverse. This delves deep into the mountain to reach Deep Gill. Scrambling up Deep Gill is similar to Lord’s Rake until you emerge a top Scafell. The summit is a short distance away. From the summit an easy path falls south to Slight Side which is a superb vantage point. To return to Wasdale followed the rough contours across Scafell to meet the old Victorian tourist path. This lead us back to Wasdale.
