Outdoor Gear Reviews

Outdoor Walking and Camping Gear Reviews
Read all the latest Mud and Routes outdoor gear reviews, both walking and camping, split into handy sub categories for your convenience.

Our outdoor gear reviews include almost anything that has an outdoor slant, from waterproof jacket reviews and boot reviews, to outdoor tech and walking pack reviews, we’ve got you covered.

We always review outdoor gear honestly and we strongly believe in testing in proper conditions, on the hill, usually in Snowdonia, not on the side of some grassy car park. We prefer to review fewer items, in more detail, with the exception of anything edible.

Google Nexus 7 Tablet Review

While we’ve had our hands on this nifty little tablet for a few months, with first impressions here, we decided to give it some time before finally reviewing it. The Google Nexus 7 is the internet giant’s first attempt at a tablet, with the idea that you get a tablet with none of the bloat […]

Montane Batpack 6 Waistpack Review

Having recently reviewed and raved about the new Montane backpacks, we tried out the baby of the family; the Batpack 6 waist pack. The Batpack is well built and constructed from tough Raptor fabric. You wouldn’t need to worry about this getting some knocks and bumps along the way. There’s a useful   secure pocket for keys

Book of The Bivvy Review

You may be tempted to bivvy out by virtue of the romance of sleeping out under the stars, or by a more clinical need to pare weight to the bare minimum. Whatever your inspiration, or if you’re just a little bit curious as to wether this is for you, then you’ll benefit from reading the Book of

Inov8 Roclite 390 Review

Out with the old and er, in with the old. Just like my trusty Meindl Burmas, which are now my third pair, the Inov8 Roclite 390GTX boot have also proven themselves worthy of like for like replacement. Spotting the newer version for £70 after the old pair nearly fell apart in Knoydart sealed the deal. Many

Kindle Touch Review

It took me a while to be convinced of the merits of this device, but as I needed to take reading matter on a 4 night trip into the wilds,  it was the ideal time to give a Kindle Touch a try out. The reading experience is as expected, brilliant. Words are crisp, even in

Moveable Feasts Review

If you’re fed up eating the same old dried meals while you’re camping,  Moveable Feasts by Amy-Jane Beer and Roy Halpin contains everything you’d ever want to know about camp cookery and then a fair bit more. Split into two unequal sections, the first section starts off with a ten chapter detailed reference section which contains anything and everything

Extremities Hiker Socks Review

I find it difficult to get enthusiastic about socks, let alone write the minimum 300 words that Google requires  in order for a post to appear on it’s hallowed pages. We were impressed with the Extremeties gloves recently, if a tad on the pricey side and the bottom line is that their socks are also in the

Fuizion Freeze Dried Meals Review

We recently stumbled across Fuizion freeze driedfoods, a brand that was new to us. On browsing their site, it becomes apparent from the photographs that this stuff stands apart from other freeze dries foods if only by being ridiculously photogenic. We couldn’t believe that this product could possibly look as good as the website makes out! We all

Grower’s Cup Coffee Review

There’s nothing new under the sun they say, but here’s at least one! Perfect coffee in a pouch. We’ve been in search of the perfect camping coffee since, well, since forever, and while we get closer we never quite get there. We got excited about the camping espresso maker by GSI, but were woefully disappointed

Pepsi Can Meths Stoves

If you want what’s definitely the cheapest and possibly the lightest camping stoves going, then you’re going to have to go for a ‘Pepsi’ can stove. Often called a pop can stove, usually Pepsi and never a Coca-Cola can stove despite the prevalence of the red can on most of the links later on. The adventurous can even

Montane Featherlite Pants Review

How light can a pair of trews get? Not much lighter than the Montante Featherlite pants that’s for sure. Suitable for those fast and light summer trips, running in less favourable conditions or as an emergency layer in your waist pack on a trail or fell run. As new, the Durable Water Repellancy treatment means that water
