Outdoor Gear Reviews

Outdoor Walking and Camping Gear Reviews
Read all the latest Mud and Routes outdoor gear reviews, both walking and camping, split into handy sub categories for your convenience.

Our outdoor gear reviews include almost anything that has an outdoor slant, from waterproof jacket reviews and boot reviews, to outdoor tech and walking pack reviews, we’ve got you covered.

We always review outdoor gear honestly and we strongly believe in testing in proper conditions, on the hill, usually in Snowdonia, not on the side of some grassy car park. We prefer to review fewer items, in more detail, with the exception of anything edible.

Hothands Review

I’ve never been one for using these myself as I tend to run warm. So when we got our hands on a couple of these to review, and night time astrophotography being a blossoming new interest, we could finally see some use for them. First and foremost, I’m a firm believer in taking kit that’s

Highlander Survival Bag Bivvy

This is one of those items that we’re all told to carry in our day packs in case of emergency, a mountain essential that can be the difference between life and death. Although, we were amused with the picture of the guy floating in outer space on the packet. That’s probably outside the safety parameters

Seven Oceans Survival Rations

At first glance, lifeboat rations seem like a rather odd thing to review on Mud and Routes. Following our recent benightment jaunt, where we had to try out some survival rations on the hill, we wanted to find what was possibly the least appealing option out there. We couldn’t find any turblokken, and these were

Sony Smartwatch 2 Review

The Sony SmartWatch 2 is one of the latest smartwatch offerings along with the Samsung Galaxy Gear, that follows in the footsteps of the Pebble and the previous, rather unloved, Sony SmartWatch. Wearable tech is certainly coming of age, but is this device the mass market watch we’ve been waiting for or something strictly for

Caplight Review

If you’re someone who likes to run with a cap, then running in the dark requires that you choose between your cap or a head torch (do people really run with a torch in hand?) When these appeared on Amazon advertised as being for runners as well as just about any other activity going , we

Inov8 Evoskin Review

Unless you’ve been living in a cave on Knoydart subsiding on fulmar eggs and whatever flotsam finds its way across the sea, you will have heard about the recent interest barefoot running. You may be curious and wondering what it’s all about, or you may already be running in minimal shoes, advertised as barefoot, but
