Movie Location Walks in Snowdonia

Sometimes you may see a scene in a film and think, “That looks familiar!” More often than not, it probably is. Here’s a number of locations for famous films in Snowdonia and a walk from the database so you can explore it yourself.

1 – Carry on up the Khyber – This was filmed on the Watkin Path, just before you enter Cwm Llan. You can explore this by either walking up the Watkin Path, or on the Aran Circuit. Fans re-enact this on an annual basis (seriously!)

2 -James Bond – Tomorrow Never Dies. You can clearly see the pipeline for Cwm Dyli when James Bond escapes via a gas pipeline! You’ll have to use your feet to walk down Nant Gwynant.

You’ll also pass areas used as locations for –  Lara Croft Tomb Raider just past the Gwynant Campsite and Inn of Sixth Happiness at the campsite just before Beddgelert.

3  -Dinorwig Quarries were used as a location for the Clash of the Titans, Willow and Street Fighter. Visit this via the Peris and Padarn Circuit.

4 Tomb Raider 2. The Alexandria Quarry was a location in the clip below. Our walk to Moel Tryfan passes close.

5 Sherlock Holmes –  A Game of Shadows – The horseriding scenes were filmed near Rhyd Ddu and in Cwm Idwal. See what you can recognise below. Some of the woodland looks familiar as well, but we can’t confirm this! Moel Cynghorion, Snowdon and Cwm Idwal are unmistakeable! The best walks for these are the Snowdon Ranger Path up Snowdon, and a Walk in Cwm Idwal.

And Finally – if you didn’t believe us about the Carry on up the Khyber re-enactment – here’s proof!
