The Best National Trust Walks in Snowdonia

The National Trust owns many of the more popular walking areas in Snowdonia. Here are some of the best National Trust Walks in Snowdonia on Mud and Routes. Remember to put a few quid in the collection boxes that have recently appeared in order to help footpath maintenance.

A large section of the Carneddau, from the north to the south are owned by the NT. So what better way to explore them by walking the entire spine of the Carneddau from Ogwen to Aber? This is a full day’s walking and you’ll need to organise some way of returning to the start.

The Northern Edge of the Carneddau – This is a walk over a few minor summits on a mini-mountain outing that’s highly recommended if you’ve got a few hours to fill. Best completed in order to catch the sunset.

A large section of the Glyderau are owned by the National Trust. Here’s a couple of walks that take in all the tops as well as a more sedate option!

Cwm Idwal and Cwm Bochlwyd mid level walk – Cwm Idwal is one of the more popular easy walks in Snowdonia, but Cwm Bochlwyd a bit higher up adds a bit more interest as well as seclusion to a good afternoon’s walking. Late evening will find Tryfan bathed in a warm light.

Garn, Glyderau and Tryfan – Take in all the main summits above Ogwen with this challenging day out, not for the faint hearted! Starting off by ascending the NE ridge of Y Garn, the route then traverses both the Glyderau before finishing off on Tryfan. Don’t be fooled by the lack of distance on this route as the overall ascent and the nature of the terrain easily makes up for it!

Nant Gwynant -This walk from Pen y Pass passes through the NT properties at Hafod y Llan and Llyndy-isaf, and finishes off at Beddgelert. You can use the Snowdon Sherpa to return to the start.

Ysbytty Ifan A walk towards the less fashionable end of Snowdonia, but thankfully avoiding the crowds that may be found elsewhere.

Llynnau Cregennen – A moderately easy walk for an afternoon around these lakes. Add interest by climbing up the steep Bryn Brith!

Dinas Oleu from Barmouth is an essential inclusion in this list as it may not be the tallest or largest, but has the honour of including the very first bit of land that the National Trust owned!
