An Steall Bàn – Steall Falls

The spectacular waterfall  of An Steall Bàn can be found high up Glen Nevis, nestled between the Mamores and the bulk of Ben Nevis. At 120m in height, it is the second highest single drop waterfall in Scotland and the United Kingdom (the highest waterfall in Scotland at 201m being Eas a’ Chual Aluinn. It also featured in the Harry Potter Films – and is sometimes referred to online as the Harry Potter Waterfall.

The Steall Falls can be reached on foot relatively easily from the Upper Falls Car Park in Glen Nevis, or a slightly longer walk from the Lower Falls Car Park that also has a seasonal bus service. The falls are near the Nevis Gorge, an area managed by the John Muir Trust.

The location is also notable, or notorious, depending on who you ask, as having a wire bridge at which you can cross the Water of Nevis. This is often used as a starting point for the classic ridge walk – The Ring of Steall.
