Llyn Cowlyd

Llyn Cowlyd

At 70m deep, Llyn Cowlyd is the deepest lake in Snowdonia and North Wales and is around 3km long. However that is around 14m deeper than it would have been naturally, as the water’s surface has been artificially raised. Llyn Cowlyd nestles in the eastern Carneddau between Creigiau Gleision and Pen Llithrig y Wrach between …

Cambrian Way Stage 14 – Barmouth to Maentwrog – The Rhinogydd

Llyn Hywel Wild Camp

Nestling in the middle of the Rhinogydd, this is the prime half way spot on a traverse of the Rhinogydd hills.

Llyn Morwynion Wild Camp

Llyn Morwynion is a picturesque wild camp in the middle of the rugged Rhinogydd. It’s a bit of a clamber to get to from what is known as a ‘path’ in this area, but well worth it. Plenty of camping spots, water and a view!

Llyn Twr Glas Wild Camp

This lake nestles in the Rhinogydd Badlands, and has a small flat area towards the nothernmost point. The selling point for camping here is the feeling of remoteness, even though you’ll still hear motorbikes on the A470 as it’s barely 5km away.

Llyn Du (Craig Drwg) Wild Camp

A tiny lake just south of Moel Ysgyfarnogod that makes for a secluded wild camp. You’ll need to scout about to find a decent flat area though.

Llynnoedd Cerrig y Myllt

This is a classic wild camping location nestled between two small upland lakes. The spot itself is flat, but popular.

Cader Idris Minffordd Path

Cwmffynnon and Llyn Cwmffynnon

This lake and cwm is well hidden, yet only minutes walk from the main road. Nestling underneath Glyder Fawr, on the unfashionable southern side, it’s mainly frequented by wild campers and those looking for rougher going. Section arounf the lake are boggy, but still plenty of dry spots to lay your tent. There’s an ascent …

Llyn Cwm Dulyn

Not to be confused with Dulyn in the Carneddau! No bothies here!

Llyn y Caseg Fraith

One of my favorite wild camping spots, with the dawn view of Tryfan being one of the highlights. Bit boggy, but oh, the view!!

Llyn y Cwn

Located below the steep slopes of Glyder Fawr, this is an idyllic wild camping spot or just a convenient lunch stop on a traverse of the Glyderau. It’s also quite busy!

Miner's Track up Snowdon

Llyn Llydaw

Llyn Llydaw is a major landmark on any walk up Snowdon from Pen-y-Pass. Crossed by a causeway by the Miner’s Track at the far end, and dominating the Cwm from the Snowdon Horseshoe that skirts above. The beach at the near end (As you ascend!) is often used to cool off feet before the final …

Cwm Idwal

Cwm Idwal is one of the more easily reached landmarks in Snowdonia, and despite this, it can still feel wild. Just ensure that you make it there early or in the evening.  It’s also a great dark sky location.
