Winter Skills Ice Axe Arrest

Taking an ice axe on your winter trip is all well and good but you need to know how to use it for stability and, if you do slip, for self arrest techniques. Walking poles just don’t cut it.

This is just a useful reminder video and it’s recommended that you get shown the ropes by an experienced friend or go on a course. If you’re used to winter walking then it does no harm to remind yourself of the proper technique and make sure that you get an opportunity to try this out safely at the start of the season.

Here’s a video that explains this in detail.
