Walks in the Moelwynion
About Walks in the Moelwynion
The Moelwynion are a range of hills right next to Snowdon, and often overlooked. They include the peaks of Cnicht (a.k.a. the Welsh Matterhorn) as well as the eponymous Moelwyn Mawr and Moelwyn Bach. The range is also tenuously linked to Moel Siabod in the north, though that’s not only for convenience. A complete traverse of the range is one of Snowdonia’s Epic day’s out, or a satisfying two day weekend route.
For the best walks in these hills, we’ve put them in three posts.
The Walking Routes up Moel Siabod – Our favourite walk would have to be the Daear Ddu scramble as it packs in a surprising amount of variety for such a short route.
The Best Walks in the Moelwynion – There are plenty of other walks along the range, with the best walk being the entire traverse from Moelwyn Bach to Moel Siabod. For a more realistic day walk, the routes from Croesor up Cnicht and Moelwynion and the Moelwynion from Tanygrisiau are particular favourites.
