Walk to the Llanberis Waterfall Ceunant Mawr

The Walk to the Llanberis Waterfall of Rhaeadr Ceunant Mawr is one of those Llanberis walks that all the locals have walked at some point, and it’s well worth a 10 minute diversion for a quick look.

How do you get to the Llanberis waterfall?  The Walk to the Llanberis waterfall map can be seen below (postcode -LL55 4TR ) and you can easily walk to the starting point from the village centre.

BE WARNED – one of the other top google searches for this walk provides a GPS route that appear to head over a cliff to these falls – while we think this is just sloppy gps plotting, just be wary.

1 Start the walk from the start of the Llanberis Path at the Victoria Terrace Bus stop. Head towards and under the viaduct of the Snowdon Railway and and keep left down the country lane.

2 Find the sign to the left of the lane that notes “to the waterfalls”. Continue on this track and continue beneath the Viaduct again.

4 The Rhaeadr Ceunant Mawr Falls are spectacular after heavy rain, and can be viewed from a safe viewing area. Do not be tempted to swim unless you know what you’re doing as  the falls are a known killer and there have been numerous reported deaths at these Llanberis waterfalls.

  1. The sign “to the waterfalls” is missing.
At the bottom of the road is a sign to “upper and lower paths” For the upper path walk up the very steep road till you meet a kissing gate by the railroad track. Cross over the track and there is a platform overlooking the top of the falls. 50m up the road is another kissing gate and path to the waters edge.
For the lower path, follow the fence on the left, branching left where it turns left. Walk between the fence and the bracken until you reach the river. Follow the concrete path on the right to the foot of the falls.
