Under Armour Ace 8 Inch Running Shorts

We admit, we’re a bit keen on the old Under Armour kit, especially with the running shorts that have served for many thousands of kilometres over the years. However, each bit of kit has a shelf life, and two out of three of my pairs of shorts had lost their inners. That’s fine in winter with compression shorts, but not ideal once it warms up again. That meant shelling out.underarmour_shorts_top_10_960

That’s the easy bit. The difficult bit is to try and work out what pair of shorts I had, and get a like for like replacement while avoiding short shorts. I got it wrong, but thankfully in a good way by getting shorts that turned out to be totally different, and that lacked the liners that was the reason I was replacing them in the first place.

These Under Armour Ace 8 inch running shorts are as far from the 118 118 runners as you can get, which is just fine with me, but might be a tad on the long side for most. Until you put them on, they do look worryingly huge, but once on are a comfortable baggy short.

Then i realised they had one feature missing from my other running shorts. POCKETS. Not just a pathetic little pocket barely big enough for a key, but two humungous pockets that could hold some money, phone or gels. Or perhaps, a brick.

This is even more important, as all my kit has to serve me for whatever activity I may be doing that day. Pockets are essential when walking, for me at any rate, just for keeping coins, buttons, bits of string and other ephemera that men keep in their pockets. Pockets to men are what a handbag/bag is to a woman, getting organised without it is an uphill struggle.

While clearly excited by the pockets, what about the comfort and functionality of the shorts? I’d wanted them in black, but instead could only get a ‘navy’ blue, a colour that I’ve a particular dislike towards. Other than that, the fact that they didn’t have a liner’s a bit of a pain, and I ended up having to shell out for some lightweight baselayer shorts to wear with them. This means they’re a bit warmer to wear than shorts with a built in liner.

Finally, I’ve a pair of shorts that’ll be fully functional for walks as well as running that have been well used in the recent spell of hot weather. As an added bonus, the longer length is more suitable for when you’re visiting the pub for a post walk pint.
