TRYFAN UK’s favourite mountain
Following a recent poll by Trail Magazine TRYFAN has been named the UK’s favourite mountain, which you may well imagine came as very welcomed news to myself, though I cannot accept any plaudits personally I can only feel some sense of pride for my namesake which is found in my very own Snowdonia back garden!
Tryfan pointing at Tryfan!The top ten (see below) contains the best of the best, and to beat such illustrious and majestic company is some feat, especially so given TRYFAN’s scare in 2010 of almost loosing it’s status as one of the 3,000ft Welsh peaks. Thankfully dismissed with a GPS qualification of 3,010ft (918m).
The top 10 UK mountains as voted by Trail magazine and its website readers are:
1 Tryfan, Snowdonia, north Wales;
2 Helvellyn, Lake District, England;
3 Snowdon, Snowdonia, north Wales;
4 An Teallach, north-west Highlands, Scotland;
5 Buachaille Etive Mòr, central Highlands, Scotland;
6 Great Gable, Lake District, England;
7 Blencathra, Lake District, England;
8 Ben Nevis, central Highlands, Scotland;
9 Suilven, northern Highlands, Scotland;
10 Liathach, north-west Highlands, Scotland.
A wide media coverage was given during the week, which can only mean good things for mountain walking in general, re-affirm Snowdonia as a mountain hotspot and Wales as a truly spectacular place to visit. Below are some of those articles:
