True Mountain Stretch Windshell Jacket Review

Over the past few months we’ve been out testing the True Mountain stretch windshell jacket. A stretchy, breathable windproof suitable for active outdoor sports.

Sticking to their usual mantra of British made, this windproof is made in Lancashire.

The windproof is a staple piece of kit these days, and if you’re asking yourself “what’s a windproof?” then you need to check out our Why Windproof  article for the low down! Still with us? Ok, so here’s my rundown of the stretch windshell jacket from True Mountain.

During the test period I’ve rarely been seen out of it to be fair. Using it on mountain walks, trail runs and even going go to the gym, as it’s easy to ball up nice and small and stuff into my gym bag.

I found combining it with the True Mountain Stretch Sportwool Long Sleeve Base Layer made for a lightweight but perfectly warm, windproof and water resistant option on mid level walks. Or add both within in your layering system when the chill factor raises during the winter months.

The fit is good, the stretch windshell jacket I had on test was a large and had long enough sleeves for me, which I find is especially important to employ proper use of thumb loops without chaffage!

Shoulders and arms had plenty of room for manoeuvre on runs, with fully elasticated cuffs and part hem offering stretchy non restrictive movement, even when combating scrambles. I would venture it would also excel in any climbing activities.

What they say:

Super stretchy, windproof and water resistant, highly breathable jacket for fast moving mountain sports

The stretch windshell jacket has a standard dark grey/light grey design, with the YKK full length zipper coming in a choice of either acid green or orange. A little in your face you might fear, but the minimal amount of colour used is rather striking, while retaining a subtle class. Especially handy for when you enter the post walk establishment for a drink! But be sure to take some money in your pack, or make sure your walk/running partner has the dosh, as this jacket doesn’t come with a pocket, to ensure it keeps weight to a minimum I would suspect.

I would class myself as a relative newcomer to the outdoor pursuits arena, and so my articles will be my attempt to chronicle my adventures, hopefully learning as I go and giving those that are in a similar boat an insight / forum to share and learn.
