Having posted in the Eryri group, I have now found this! Can anyone offer suggestions for routes out of the Barmouth area? I will be heading there in the summer with junior member of the family .. I used to walk lots in Brecons & Peaks but am very out of practice in the ‘hills’ dept as we live in Kent.
We want to camp and we want to play on the beach somewhere (well, he does!) and we want to walk up into the hills/mntns BUT I do not want to put him off with overly long or overly ambitious routes … he has done Pen y Fan & Corn Du but the enthusiasm of a three year old carries them through most challenges … several years on I am nervouse and I don’t know the area at all.
Any suggestions gratefully received, thank you.

Hi Lou – welcome to the site!
There’s an interesting looking walk via the Ardudwy Way that starts in Barmouth and takes you over to the next village along – Talybont. You can return via train.
https://www.mudandroutes.com/archives/routes/the-ardudwy-way-south-by-daveroberts-23112011 – and about 12km long and steady enough. You can continue onwards to the old coach road at SH637 223 and descend to Pont Scethin if you wanted a longer day. You could walk as far as Diffwys which feels like a proper mountain with the sheer drop on one side, but that’s over 10km ONE WAY!
If you’ve access to a car then you might be better off heading for Cadair Idris via the Pony Path? That’s around 8km total.
