The Route

Snowdon on a sunny Sunday afternoon in June isn’t somewhere to go for peace and quiet. However, even this overcrowded mountain has some quieter spots. Cwm Clogwyn is one of these.
The ground can be boggy once off the Ranger Path, but mainly once past Llyn Ffynnon y Gwas, and not overly so. It’s also best to cross lower down as the river becomes too wide to jump near the lake and the rocks are very mossy making it a bit hit and miss! You can see how far I had to wander to find a safe spot, but it was hardly any better than one I’d decided against further up.
Cwm Clogwyn is an idyllic wild camping spot, and one I’ve yet to bag! Ideally suited for a Friday evening as it’s easily reached in a couple of hours after work.
The route does have a very faint path, and I realised that the route taken in today’s perfect conditions was the same as that taken last time in the wind and rain. It’s not difficult, but has a steep and grassy section as a final hurdle that can be slippery in the wet.
The shoulder of the mountain becomes grassier and flat, and you join the Rhyd Ddu path for the final jaunt to the summit.
Today’s descent was, unfortunately, via the Llanberis path, which has tourists as it’s main hazard.
