Walk Up Silver How – Langdale to Grasmere Walk

This is a walk from Langdale to Grasmere over the Wainwright of Silver How, which provides an excellent view over Grasmere. The route outlined sets off from Chapel Stile, up Meg’s Gill and across to Silver How. It’s then down to Grasmere Village, past Allan Bank – which was one of Wordsworth’s homes for a few years after he married, but left as the chimneys apparently smoked too much.

The walk then returns along a quiet lane on the west shore of Grasmere and back to the start through Red Bank Wood and over the shoulder of Huntingstile Crag – a bit of an uphill pull back to the start. You can alternatively start this walk from Grasmere or Elterwater, rather than Chapel Stile.
