Coniston Old Man Circular from Coniston

The mountain of Coniston Old Man in the Lake District Southern Fells, dominates the village of the same name and makes a tempting walk if you’re in the area. This is the busiest walking route up to the summit of The Old Man of Coniston, and it can be busy. This walk begins from Coniston initially following an easy lane, and you can cut this first section out by parking higher up. From here, a good track ascends the mountain via the tarn of Low Water, and descend via the lake of Goat’s Water returning via Walna Scar Road. You can easily extend this route over Dow Crag and Buck Pike if you want to squeeze a bit more into your mountain day – with that route detailed on our Coniston Old Man via Jack Diamond Path walking route.
