Circular Dovedale Walk from Alstonefield

Dovedale in the White Peak is one of the gems of the Peak Distict. While most choose to park near Ilam or even closer and walk to the Dovedale Stepping Stones, this is a more challenging circular walk through the picturesque Dove Dale. This walk has been featured as one of the Best Walks in the Peak District.

With numerous caves to explore in Dovedale, and limestone features such as the Tissington Spire, Ilam Rocks it certainly makes the area unique.

The Dovedale car park at the half way point does have some facilities, which is a handy source of light refreshment. Or you could take a short diversion to the National Trust’s Ilam Park which has toilets and tea rooms.

Another recommended diversion is the walk up the limestone knoll of Thorpe Cloud, a distinctive little hill that dominates the view around the Dovedale Stepping Stones. For those looking for a pub near Dovedale, there’s the Dovedale Bar at the the Izaak Walkton Hotel that’s just round the corner from the Dovedale car park and has a beer garden that’ll make you want to stay all day!
