Walk up Drygarn Fawr a Rhiwnant from Dolgoch Hostel

This Mid Wales Walk from the Dolgoch Hostel goes over the highest point in the Elenydd, Drygarn Fawr at 645m and then down into the Claerwen valley, a major tributary of the Elan valley. It descends the Devil’s Staircase into the Irfon valley on way out and returns to Dolgoch Hostel over Drum Nantygorlan.

The walk involves a number of re-ascents and you’ll be committed to complete this 30km yomp with little option to cut it down. Returning to the start from the Elan Valley would involve a circuitous taxi journey!
