Slate Valleys Path – Dinorwig Trail

A longer route that explores the quarries above Llanberis and Dinorwig. You can extend it into Brynrefail with the Fachwen Trail.

The Route This starts off by exploring the Vivian Quarry in the Padarn Country park before climbing up into the former quarrying communities of Deiniolen and Clwt y Bont. As you return via Dinorwig, you’ll not fail to notice the many empty homesteads on the hillside that supported the once larger population.

The final leg of the walk takes you through the severe remains of the Dinorwig Quarries and above Llyn Peris that was emptied and deepened in order to form a reservoir for the Electric Mountain hydro scheme. Most of the slate tips here were added to by that scheme.

Return via Nant Peris, and Dolbadarn Castle.
