Rhoscolyn to Traeth Llydan (Silver Bay) Short Easy Walk

An easy walk along the coastal path along spectacular scenery with very little ascent and a pub near the end! Make sure you’ve got an up to date map with the coastal path clearly marked! My map was a few years old, and this was good prep for walking the entire path in a few weeks.

The Route

Starting from the car park at Rhoscolyn (you’ll be lucky in high season!), the path is found by following the narrow road back a few tens of metres where you’ll spot your first coastal path sign. Turn right here and continue until you reach a junction, where you continue forwards.

A couple of hundred metres along, the track bends off to the left and there are no signposts. There’s a drive to the right towards Plas Esgob which is the route for the coastal path.

Finally, you’re on an exposed headland with it’s erratic boulders here and there and you can follow the coast closely, or take the more direct route across.

It’s very much more of the same as you continue onwards, with rocky shorelines and largely inaccessible coves. The view today was dominated by the town of Rhosneigr and the snowcapped Eryri mountains beyond.

All too soon, you reach Traeth Llydan, where you walk along the beach to the forest to continue. The path is clearly marked, until you get to a field before Bryn y Bar, when the field was rather wet and the route unclear. However, head for the house that’s directly opposite you and there’s a track that passes to the right of this newly built house.

This track is obvious now, and turns into a tarmack road sooner than the OS map would suggest. Keep on the lane, ignoring the coastal path signposting on a permissive path to the right (though you could add a few more kilometres to the walk if you wanted), and passing the junction to Silver Bay.

The lane joins another lane, hardly the main road but as close as you’ve got here, and turn left here. At the next junction, you’ll see the White Eagle and a sign for the beach which should be easy to reach if you started from the car park there! It’s well worth stopping at the White Eagle as it has a reputation for good food and they have a decent selection of ales.

The lane back is very narrow, and cars will have to stop for you to walk past them and has numerous 90° bends which need a bit of care. Though, at least it’s only a few minutes from the pub.
