Walk up Place Fell from Patterdale

The summit of Place Fell looms high above Patterdale at the southern end of Ullswater and is one of the most prominent peaks visible from Glenridding. That makes it a compelling half day outing if you’re based here. Place Fell is located between the ranges of Helvellyn and High Street, and so makes a natural viewpoint into the Eastern and Far Eastern Fells.

The walk up Place Fell starts up via Rooking to Boredale Hause on largely good paths before ascending to the summit via the rough crag of Round How. It’s then a short descent via The Knight and back to the start. You can easily extend the walk by descending towards High Dodd towards Sandwick and return along the shore of Ullswater via the Ullswater Bridleway.
