Loggerheads to Cilcain on the Leete Path
This walk from the Loggerheads Country Park takes you along the Leete Path and the Afon Alyn to Cilcain before returning along the flanks of Frith Mountain (part of Moel Famau) to gain enough height for a view without being too strenuous. Most of the initial section along the Leet Path shares the route with the Clwydian Way.
The Leete Path follows a 2m wide leat that was constructed in the 1820s to divert water from Loggerheads to power the lead mining activity downstream as the river was full of sink holes into which water would be lost. The leat was built by the Mold Mines Company as the area was an important lead mining centre until the mines closed in the 1870s.
