Helm Crag Circular Walk from Grasmere

This is a longer version of the direct route up Helm Crag from Grasmere, taking in the extra Wainwright summits of Gibson Knott and Calf Crag in a satisfying circular walk around Far Easedale. Helm Crag is highly visible from Grasmere and as a result is a popular Wainwright.

The summit is unmistakable, with the crag known variously as the Lion and the Lamb, “The old lady playing the organ” and the Howitzer – with the profile depending on which direction the summit is viewed. The actual summit requires a couple of technical moves in order for you to have ascended to the summit proper.

This route continues to Gibson Knott and Calf Crag before descending Far Easedale but would equally make an approach to the hills of High Raise and descending to Grasmere via the Blea Rigg ridge or the Easedale Tarn path.
