Brecon Beacons Waterfall Country Walk- Four Falls Trail to Sgwd yr Eira Details
Sgwd yr Eira is one of the most famous falls in the Brecon Beacons’ Waterfall Country. This is a walk to Sgwd yr Eira and 3 of the other well known falls found on the Afon Fellte: Sgŵd y Pannwr, Sgŵd Isaf Clun-gwyn and Sgŵd Clun-gwyn. Sgwd yr Eira is well known as it is one of the few waterfalls in the Brecon Beacons that you can walk behind (with obvious care!) The trail is way-marked from the Gwaun Hepste car park located on a minor road near Ystradfellte. Those wanting to visit the other waterfalls in the area could easily walk to most of the named falls in the area in a day (by walking a number of short walks).
The Four Falls Trail is a named route and is well way-marked, with the metric/imperial problem solved by providing timings to given points. At least timings and how we measure time is one think that isn’t horribly partisan at this point. The first section is a 2km forestry walk, which you’ll also be returning upon. Beyond this the Four Falls Trail takes a loop through the forest and does require a detour from the named path to actually reach any of the falls! You can walk it in any direction, but it makes sense to start with Sgŵd yr Eira and walk it in a clockwise direction, but it can equally be walked in the opposite direction. After Sgwd yr Eira the track heads towards Sgŵd y Pannwr, which is a sizeable detour and we’d suggest following the track nearer the Afon Fellte. The final two, Sgŵd Isaf Clun-gwyn and Sgŵd Clun-gwyn are then found in quick succession just past Sgwd y Panniwr, before following the forestry track back to the car park at Gwaun Hepste.
