Let’s be Frank!

Frank bars.

Osian Gwynedd gives us his verdict on Frank bars.

Nothing beats a good healthy guilt free snack bar, and recently I came across a new range of snack bars called ‘FRANK* Honest Snacking’, created by ‘The Frank Food Company’.

The Frank Food Company was founded by former Everton footballer Neil Robinson, a committed vegan. Neil struggled to find a convenient healthy snack that tasted great and that suited his dietary and fitness needs, so he decided to develop his own recipe.

Made with 100% natural ingredients, FRANK bars contain wholegrain oats, dried fruit & juice and topped with dairy free Coconut Cream Chocolate. They’re also nut, dairy, egg, wheat and gluten free and suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Whats they say

FRANK bars are a deliciously indulgent snack bar made with 100% natural ingredients such as wholegrain oats, dates & dried plums and topped with a delicious dairy free Coconut Cream chocolate. FRANK bars are gluten, nut, & dairy free and are a source of protein, with each bar containing almost 4g of protein per 35g bar. FRANK bars also contain ENERGYSMART®, which is a patented, all-natural combination of carbohydrates from select fruits (apple, grape & pear) plus specially developed natural dextrins from grain which together provide longer-lasting energy.

Even Gelert liked them!

Packaging

Standard bar shape and packaging, with an easy to recognize logo and a colour for each flavour. What I was a bit disappointed with was it only provides you the nutritional fact per 100g, and does not tell you the nutritional facts (per bar), which saves you from having to work it out for yourself, as the bar is only 35g.

Taste Test

Frank bars accross the board have a cakey, fudge like texture, a little like brownies but only pack 120 calories.

Blueberry: 7/10

The taste was really good, not too sweet but in my opinion the blueberry taste could have been a bit stronger. Overall, really tasty.

Orange: 8/10

Tastes exactly like terrys chocolate orange, what’s crazy is it would pass as a standard chocolate bar, its that good

Oat & Choc: 8/10

Again really smooth texture, the little bit of chocolate on the bottom half just makes it extra special

Double Choc: 4/10

In my opinion this is the one I would not eat again, it was a bit dry and too bitter for my liking. But each to they’re own!

Chococolate & Strawberry: 6/10

Almost a fruit cake taste to this one.

Price

When the good people at Frank agreed to send Tryf’s Blog a sample we were expecting at best one of each falvour offering, but we got a full box which was very nice of them, and half the reason for the duration of testing time for this article! 🙂

Stockists are ever growing, a full list can be found here. At the moment selected Asda stores are offering individual bars at a very, very competitive 50 pence a bar!

Verdict

With most allergy and dietary requirements covered, and 5 flavours to choose from this bar should be able to suit all, and to be frank (sorry I had to fit that one in somewhere!) at a very competitive price! As well as offering a protein hit, these bars have the aforementioned Enrgysmart innovation that offers sustained energy over a period of time, which lends itself brilliantly for those going out on any sort o prolonged outdoor activity, or even to the gym. A handy snack to have in any pack!

I would class myself as a relative newcomer to the outdoor pursuits arena, and so my articles will be my attempt to chronicle my adventures, hopefully learning as I go and giving those that are in a similar boat an insight / forum to share and learn.
