Five Things – Starting Out

Here’s a few of the best Starting Out and Skills and Tips tutorial articles we’ve published over the last year or so.

1 – Wild Camping

It may not have been a good year to start wild camping, but if anyone was inclined to do so then our Wild Camping tutorials would certainly have put them in the right direction. There are four articles here, taking you from the kit to the food. If you’re worried that it might cost an arm and a leg, then our article on Wild Camping on a Budgie tells you how to do so for under a £100 both safely and reasonably comfortably.

2 – Get into Country Walking.

If you fancy a bit of walking, then this is the first stop. It outlines the basic kit you need for the easier walks on the site, as opposed to full blown mountain outings. If you’re looking to get into much easier walking, then out Walking For fitness article might be more suitable?

3  – Walk your first LDP

Wild camping not enough for you? Want ten or more nights under canvas? Walking a Long Distance Path is one way to do so.

4 – Get running

A few pointers on getting started with running, or try our guide to the Couch to 5k here.

5 – Going Lightweight

Too much weight in your pack? We help you cut down. There are a few tips here, but we put this properly to the test by wild camping high on Snowdon with the world’s lightest rucksack in our Snowdon Superlight Wild Camp Challenge. Though, going lightweight should not become an obsession.

6 – The Beauty of Bivvying

To prove it, here’s one way to cut the weight right down even further!

7 – Luxury Wild Camping

And to emphasize the complete opposite, take everything including the kitchen sink! This is what proper glamping’s all about, some real cool camping can only be done when you’re wild on the hill. The only running water we need are in the streams, and the only showers are cold, unwelcome and fall from the skies.
