Extremities Hiker Socks Review

I find it difficult to get enthusiastic about socks, let alone write the minimum 300 words that Google requires  in order for a post to appear on it’s hallowed pages. We were impressed with the Extremeties gloves recently, if a tad on the pricey side and the bottom line is that their socks are also in the same league.

I inadvertently gave these socks the ultimate test when I tested out a pair of cheap boots recently and soaked my feet on the first few kilometres into a 20k walk. That is not usually a story that ends well.

In this case however, my feet were reasonably comfortable considering that the boots let water in but not back out again, and certainly warm enough for a winter walk. I’ll say that was down to these socks rather than the boots that were only priced at a few quid more. They were warm enough for a mid-level walk in conditions that saw sun, rain, sleet and snow whilst they were encased in a boot that lacked a waterproof liner and was sodden.

Since then, they’ve been tested out on the Anglesey Coastal Path on long days and did what you’d expect from a premium priced pair of socks. While the usual choice may be 1000 Mile (Aka 1620Km) or Bridgedale, the Extremities socks are easily of equal pedigree. An ideal choice outside the warmer months, and coupled with a decent liner sock for winter.

What the Manufacturer Says:

Warmer with more padding than the Light Hiker sock, with the same support and protection features, which make it ideal for daily use on extended backpacking and hiking trips.

The loop stitch construction extends all the way up the shin for greater comfort in stiffer, more supportive boots. A higher percentage of Merino Wool and Wool Ultra create an excellent internal environment for the foot and provide the Hiker Sock with its excellent compression recovery and lack of friction against the foot.
