The Coleman Solo Cookset is a bargain. At half the price of a titanium kettle and with four pots you’ll have to expect some comprimised. Made of anodised aluminium, they’re reasonably light and obviously not titanium, so a comparison would be unfair. For your money you get a large pot that’s nearly a litre in size and a small pot that I’d use as a mug. A 250g gas canister just fits into the large pot, and they can vary in size so your preferred brand might not fit. A 100g canister is a comfortable fit into the xxml mug. If you want to take the lot, then the smaller pans fit like large lids onto the pans and pack away tidily. You could easily fit a 100g canister, stove and maybe a washing up kit and some drinks inside and then either place into the provided bag or try and find a large wide elastic band to do the job.You don’t get individual lids, but the shallow pans double as a lid, or you can take a bit of foil instead.
Four pots really is overkill for a solo camper, and you could get away with a couple of pots in whatever combination works for you – see below.
So if you need a decent set of pots for one or two, you can’t go far wrong with these. Of course, they’re not non-stick, so you’ll need to take care if you’re cooking anything other than boling water, but that’s true for most lightweight pansets.
What’s good: Cheap, reasonably light for the price. Graduated pots ideal for more adventurous campers. More than enough for one. Probably too many pots for one camper.
Not so good: A lid would be handy.
