Socks are difficult, both to review and to get the right one on your feet to match the conditions (and we don’t mean in comparison to the left). Winter isn’t too bad, nice thick socks and a decent liner sock, and you’re sorted. Spring and Autumn, likewise, don’t seem to be an issue. But whatever socks I choose for warm summer walks are either too warm or too thin, and my feet invariably overheat even with the lightest boots. For more information on choosing socks for walking, read this article on choosing the right socks by Steve Fowler, Managing Director of Brdgedale.

These WoolFusion® Trail Ultra Light socks by Bridgedale are designed as summer socks with a lightweight mix of synthetic fabrics and Enduro Wool

Enduro Wool is the first spin of wool, which guarantees softness, quality and durability. Enduro Wool also provides excellent thermal balance and moisture control properties.

They were rigorously tested on a 60km backpack on the Wales Coastal Path, with the bulk of that walking on the middle day, with a pair of ancient Inov8 Roclite 390s. Over that trip, they were about right for warmth. Despite walking too far with a much heavier pack than I’m comfortable with for around 10 hours, plus a full day to top it off, there wasn’t any chafing, blistering or discomfort.

Couple that with their testing on almost every walk this summer, and they have performed exactly as we’d expect. That’s with the addition of wet feet owing to some rather raggedy boots that I’m loath to bin, and despite that they’ve managed to keep the feet comfortable.

We’ve tried about every Bridgedale socks going, and they simply work and last. The only wish I’ve got is that I can buy a box of identical socks so that I’m not left with a bunch of odd ones.
