Aquapac Review

After I’d moaned about my phone not being waterproof in a previous post (might as well complain that it always bloody rains on my walking days for all the good it does), i bought this straight off ebay. Well, i had some cash in Paypal so it seemed the sensible thing to do – almost like getting it free!

The aquapac feels sturdy, and i felt that my N95 was more than safe in it when i crossed the Carneddau in pretty grim conditions on Friday (but no rain when you need it!). I’ve spent money before on some drybags to do the job, but this seems a much better investment. Under £20 to protect an item of gear worth 10 to 20 times that is a sensible investment in anyone’s book. Not only is it waterproof, but it’s padded on the back. So you get some limited shock protection as an addedd bonus. The model I’ve got is the Small, but it’s oversize for my needs as i wanted to store some cash and cards in there.

The video on Youtube shows a phone-eye view of being dipped into water! It’s only my N70, I wasn’t brave enough to try my N95, but I’m confident it would be OK.

The downside is that you really have to yell into it to get heard. So you’re going to have to be careful if you intend to use this on the hill in the company of others. It’s also essential to have the phone in some sort of loudspeaker mode, but you don’t need it loud. The ideal compromise to this would be a Bluetooth headset, and the only one I can find is the X2 from Bluetrek. This comes with a recharger and does the job, but I’ll be honest and admit that I rarely take it on the hill with me.

All in all, my problem of having a soggy mobile is finally over.
