All I want for Christmas 5 Satmap Active 10 Plus with GB Outdoor GPS Map with bike mount

Satmap Active 10 Plus with GB Outdoor GPS Map with bike mount – About £600 (but available at half price)

Ok, so you insist on getting a GPS. If you’re going to get one, you should either go for the cheapest that’ll record your route or one that shows proper mapping. I don’t mean contours and the like, but proper maps on the screen. You can get that on your phone, so you expect a device that’s designed for the job to do the same at the very least.

One such mapping GPS is the Satmap 10 plus. Using proper OS mapping that we should all be familiar with in the UK, you can see immediately where you are without having to interpret the information and then work out on a map where you are. You can plot your route easily on the device itself, by use of the joystick, but there’s unfortunately no touch screen. These days I find myself trying to move things on every screen by using my finger as all my main devices are now touch screen and that’s become second nature.

The full package comes complete with all the 1:50k mapping for the UK which is why this device is on our want list. Not only that, but it’s currently available at half price at Amazon. I’m hoping that this discounting is because there’s a touch screen Satmap 20 in the offing. Unfortunately, the 1:25k mapping is not expensive, it’s extortionate. A slap on the wrist for the Ordnance Survey’s licencing fees, as the cost of any digital map should never exceed that of the paper version by such a margin.

While you’re at it, if you’ve persuaded a loved one to buy you this why not add a bike mount and a ProShield rubber casing to protect the GPS and provide significantly improved waterproofing.
