No – Sabre isn’t a species of tree! It is a technique developed by the charity ‘Tree Shepherds’ to restore native broad-leaved trees to the hills and valleys of Snowdonia. It is a method of planting providing resilience to grazing from sheep without the need for protective fencing. We will be working with a National Trust warden, planting oak, ash, rowan, birch and alder on the slopes around Dyffyn Mymbyr farm.
Meet: 10.00am in the lay-by (space for around 20 cars) along the A4086 road, 2 miles from Capel Curig, in the direction of the Pen y Gwryd Hotel. Grid Ref. SH 696 571.
Bring: Packed lunch, tea/coffee, waterproofs, warm clothing layers, sturdy boots are essential, (steel toecaps are recommended). Tools and gloves will be provided. The meeting venue is remote and in the mountains, we will be working in cold winter conditions, it is very important to bring lots of layers of warm clothing, including spares, also a hat, scarf, waterproof coat and trousers plus your packed lunch and a hot drink in a flask.
