Best Guidebook Walks 4 – Across The Migneint

This route featured in our article on My Favourite Guidebook Walks.

I don’t even know why I chose this one!

Probably as I think I ought to get out and do it, and partially for the same reason as people run those races with barbed wire and mud. Crossing this area seems like a penance in some ways, though one to keep for either dry or frozen conditions, and possibly with a very wild camp at one of the lonely lakes.

The Route can only be found in in Classic Walks  which you may be able to get second hand online, but well worth buying.

  1. Have you done this yet? According to my diary I did it in June 1982 and it was wet even in summer. It’s worth looking in at Cefngarw. When I visited I found the painting of the ram on the wall, as described in Classic Walks. There was also a Welsh Dresser, with a serviceable set of china. From what I could see the house wasn’t being used by anyone at the time.

The walk is well worth doing and you aren’t likely to bump into anyone else. I keep meaning to go back and wild camp somewhere on Arenig Fach. Have t wait for drier weather though!

    Ian.

  2. Hi Ian,

This is still one I’m yet to do. Definitely waiting for the drier weather before venturing that way, and one of the few areas in Snowdonia that I’m yet to wild camp. I fancy this as a mid winter camp, when the ground’s frozen and the going’s a little easier.
