North Wirral Coastal Path Leasowe to Perch Rock

While rather urban and built up, there’s an easy to follow path that’s suitable for runners, walkers and cyclists.

The Route

Staying at Leasowe Castle Hotel, I decided to give the coastal path a go. It’s very easy, and follows cycle tracks or the concrete embankment for the distance. If the tide is out, then at least you can run on the sand in places, with the beaches contrasting with the sea defenses.

You can continue beyond the North Wirral Coastal Park all the way to New Brighton along the wide promenade, all the way to the Perch Rock fort. The are of New Brighton has recently undergone significant investment and there’s a new development on the seafront not shown on the map. There’s a worrying sign on one section at New Brighton, stating that the walkway should not be used if covered with the tide. Worrying that such a sign should be required in in the first place, with common sense obviously not being sufficient.

Alternatively, you could follow the coastal path to the north western corner of the peninsula to Hoylake with views towards the North Wales hills.
